Population and Housing Estimates

The Census Bureau's "Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates" prepares annual estimates for the states, counties, and sub-county areas. Cornell University's Program on Applied Demographics is the technical contact for this program.

Estimates are prepared with a reference date of July 1 for each year. New estimates for states are usually released in the last week of December. County estimates are generally provided a few months later and sub-county estimates about 9 months after the state figures.

NOTE:  The estimates in the table below do NOT reflect Census 2000 results.  The 2000 Census appears to have significantly improved coverage and enumeration compared to the 1990 Census.  Therefore, comparisons between the estimates found here and data from the 2000 Census may be misleading and should be used with great caution.
