Census 2000
-- Local Government Population Data
(Last Updated --
June 29, 2004
)
The data presented in these reports are derived
from the 1990 and 2000 Censuses of Population
and Housing. Counts are presented for the total
population and population change between the
Census dates for all units of local government.
REVISED POPULATION AND HOUSING UNIT COUNTS:
The U.S. Census Bureau is issuing revisions to the total population, group
quarters population, total housing units, and vacant housing units in areas
within New York State as a result of the
Count
Question Resolution Program.
A list of revisions
is available and will be updated as the Census Bureau releases new revisions
for New York State. Revisions for other states are available from the U. S.
Census Bureau’s web site at

| The Census Bureau has announced that they will not revise
the data included in American FactFinder or any report from the 2000
census. Users of this system need to look at the documents listed above for
revised data. |
These files contain data for New York state
counties, towns, cities and villages. The governmental
units are ordered alphabetically by town/city
within each county. Village summaries follow
the town in which they are included. Town summaries
include the population of all villages.
Files limited to county
data also are available.
Some villages and cities in New York are split
by county or town boundaries and the individual
parts are indicated with either "(pt.)"
or "(part)."
Split Villages Tables:
The following tables show the data for each
part of a village within the town that part
is actually located in.
Total Village Tables:
The following table shows the totals for split
villages at the beginning of each county listing.
NOTE: The local address review programs
before the census were the only review opportunity
that localities had to challenge the accuracy
of the Census Bureau's address lists. The Count
Question Resolution program will start in June
and is the only opportunity for corrections
- corrections ONLY as a result of geographic
misallocation. Localities can't complain that
their number is too low or that the Census missed
population. They can only complain that the
Census Bureau put the population in the wrong
place ("Some of my housing units ended
up in the town next door"). More
details about the Count Question Resolution
program can be found in the Federal Register
as a
text file or a
pdf file
