New York State is home to a diverse workforce - skilled

New York is ranked first in the nation for number of degrees
awarded in materials sciences, computer sciences and medical
sciences; is ranked second for number of degrees awarded in
electrical engineering, mathematics, and biological
sciences; and is ranked third for number of civil and
mechanical engineering degrees awarded.

existing worker training. Our programs can pay up to 50% of

Human Resources
New York State’s talented and versatile workforce supports a

educational and professional experience. Almost 32 percent
of all adults in New York State have four or more years of
college, and nearly 350,000 scientists and engineers call
the Empire State home.

force of nearly 9.7 million workers, New York workers are

With 307 two- and four-year colleges (including branches),
New York has one of the most extensive networks of academic
institutions. These institutions also provide an important
resource for continuing education and vocational education
programs.
More than one million students are enrolled in undergraduate
and graduate programs in New York.
Almost 32 percent of all adults have completed four or more
years of college compared to about 27 percent for the U.S.
as a whole.
Over 8% percent of the national total of science and
engineering graduate students are enrolled in New York
institutions.
