Harriman Research & Technology Development Corporation (HRTDC)
Welcome
to the website for the Harriman Campus redevelopment
initiative. The Harriman Research and Technology Development
Corporation, a subsidiary of Empire State Development, is
dedicated to transforming Albany’s W. A. Harriman State
Office Campus into a regional growth engine for New York
State’s “Innovation Economy” and a world class Research and
Technology Park that will spur economic development, grow
the tax base and create high quality jobs in the Capital
Region.
The development strategy for the Harriman Campus is
directly related to the
vision approved by the Harriman Research and Technology
Development Corporation (HRTDC) Board.
The Campus is “ready to build” and “ready to occupy” and
will offer development opportunities with a priority placed
on R&D facilities; administrative offices for technology
focused industries, and could include hotel conference
facilities, residential development and associated
convenience retail. Opportunities for adaptive reuse of
existing buildings are available in an incubator program for
new or developing companies. Tenants enjoy easy access from
the local highway system, parking that is close to building
destinations and a suburban setting complete with green
areas and landscaped entry roads.
The plan for the campus furthers the Upstate economic
development strategy of supporting industry clusters,
cluster development, university technology transfer to the
private sector and smart growth. The 330-acre Harriman
Campus’s adjacency to the University at Albany’s main
campus, the University’s College of Nanoscale Science and
Engineering and the growing SEMATECH complex, make it one of
the most valuable and underdeveloped locations in the
region. The existing transportation infrastructure and day
care facilities, coupled with available land for development
support Harriman as a prime site for development. The
Campus will also become a showcase for green development,
green workplaces, and sustainable communities, emphasizing
another of the Governor’s top priorities.
The redevelopment plan for the campus fosters growth through a partnership of the New York State Office of General Services, Empire State Development Corporation, the University at Albany and the City of Albany. These partners are working to secure investment, manage the property and locate the funding and incentives necessary to attract research and development businesses that are vital to the future of the campus. As the plan moves forward, other public and private sector partners will be invited to participate and lend their expertise.
