Inside New York City
New York City (NYC) is composed
of five boroughs: Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and
Staten Island. With more than 40 percent of the State's
population residing in NYC, it remains the
premier city in the U.S. and among the most populous in the
world covering, despite covering a mere 303.32 square miles.
Each year millions of visitors are attracted to New York
City's unparalleled array of cultural and entertainment
facilities and events. Cultural offerings are everywhere:
there are more than 150 museums, 400 art galleries, dozens
of Broadway and off-Broadway theaters, and numerous music,
dance and theater companies. While some employees choose to
live in outlying suburban and rural areas, more than a third
of the metropolitan region's college-educated adults live in
this exciting, one-of-a-kind city.
NYC is the home for many industry giants in the
fields of bioscience, securities and finance-related
services, green building development, food manufacturing,
print, television and radio media, tourism and hospitality.
Fast facts in these sectors: almost two-thirds of the
nation’s pharmaceutical industry is located in the immediate
vicinity of New York City; the annual output of NYC’s manufacturing industry is approximately $20.4 billion and
supports a total of 101,300,800 jobs.
