New York—At the Center of the World
New York State’s transportation and
telecommunications networks and accessibility
to domestic and international markets can
meet virtually every need. We also offer
an abundance of low-cost water, gas and
electricity to give your business the power
it needs to succeed.
Transportation
New York has over 500 airports and landing
facilities and direct flights to over 150
cities worldwide. The State harbors thousands
of miles of rivers, 33 deep-river ports,
and ready access to the Great Lakes, St.
Lawrence Seaway and the world's oceans.
New York’s roadways span 112,000 miles
and its interstate highways cross 1,500
miles. New York has more than 4,000 miles
of freight and passenger railways. Our transportation
systems, northeast crossroads location and
shared border with Canada give New York-based
businesses a competitive edge.
Energy
New York State and the electric and gas
utilities serving New York offer a variety
of energy cost savings programs to help
reduce business costs, preserve and create
jobs, and encourage new investment in the
State. We also offer a "Power-for-Jobs"
program that can save qualifying businesses
an estimated 25% on electricity costs.
Locations, Locations
New York offers an almost infinite variety
of locations for your business -- from sophisticated
urban space to high-tech research parks
and from high-traffic retail centers to
rural industrial tracts. To make site selection
easier for you, New York's advanced team
of site selection and business expansion
experts has scouted ahead for you and developed
an inventory of high-potential locations,
with and without existing facilities.
Build Now - NY
If you have a fast-track project, our new
Build Now - NY program can clear the path
for you. The program offers "shovel-ready"
sites pre-permitted for building and expansion.
Wage, tax, utility and land cost analyses
are already prepared for you, as are details
on infrastructure, sewer, water and transportation
access. We have more than 40 shovel-ready
sites available, with more under review.
Telecommunications
New York State has one of the most advanced
telecommunications systems on the planet.
A statewide network of approximately 13
million access lines is 100% supported by
a digital infrastructure. New York City
alone is the largest telecom market in the
world and Buffalo represents one of the
nation's most densely networked fiber optic
cities. With a value exceeding $35 billion,
the State's overall telecommunications infrastructure
continues to expand every week thanks to
fiber optic enhancements. Looking to the
future, New York State is at work upgrading
cable TV systems to achieve a full range
of next-generation telecommunications services
for consumers and businesses.
