settings and world-class theater, museums,
art, sports, and entertainment. Visit the
I Love New York website for a virtual
tour of the Empire State.
For outdoor adventure, New York State
shelters 164 State Parks, 46 majestic
mountain peaks, hundreds of miles of ocean
and coastal beaches, and myriad lakes,
ponds, streams, and wild life preserves.
Playing an important role in our nation's
past, New York has more than 80,000
nationally registered historic places to
explore, as well as 35 state-owned historic
sites.
The heart and spirit of New York State
spans eleven diverse regions, each endowed
with unique natural, cultural, recreational,
and commercial characteristics. New York
State hosts visitors from all over the
world, but there has never been a better
time to make a commitment to live and work
in New York State. In addition to a
convenient northeastern location, the State
offers businesses and residents many
financial incentives.
Lower Personal Taxes
New York State has trimmed personal tax
rates to put more discretionary income in
the hands of its workers and their families.
More than 3 million homeowners are saving
over $2 billion each year thanks to School
Tax Relief (STAR). For more information on
STAR, visit

Reduced Crime
Today, New York is a safer place to work,
live and do business than it was ten years
ago. In the first half of 2003, we outpaced
the nation in reducing crime with a 5.5%
overall decline in the seven major offenses
compared to the same period in 2002. Since
1994, violent crime dropped 45%, accounting
for the State's lowest crime rate in almost
30 years.
Superior Schools
New York schools set national standards for
excellence, ensuring a brighter future for
our State. In Advanced Placement
examinations, our students account for
nearly 11% of national participants, and 64%
of our students' Advanced Placement exams
qualified for college credit. We are ranked
first in the nation in number of first tier
universities based on 70 criteria, first in
number of public libraries and branches, and
first in enrollment in private institutions
of higher learning.
High Quality, Affordable Health Care
Unprecedented investments in health care
have placed New York State among the
national leaders in expanding health care
coverage and providing access to high
quality and affordable health services. The
State has launched new programs to ensure
access to health care for all New Yorkers.
These include Family Health Plus, Healthy
New York, Child Health Plus, and the Elderly
Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program
(EPIC). Visit the EPIC Web site at
www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/epic/faq.htm.
