Special Initiatives
Specifically for Back Office Operations and Call Centers
- Effective February 1, 1997, the sale of Internet access service, including
start-up charges, is exempt from sales and use taxes under Articles 28 and
29 of the Tax Law. In addition, for taxable periods ending on or after February
1, 1997, Internet access service is not subject to the telecommunications
excise tax imposed under section 186-e of the Tax Law.
- Also effective February 1, 1997, storing advertising on a server located
in New York, or having advertising disseminated or displayed by an Internet
service provider that does business in the State, will not create a nexus
with New York for purposes of sales, gross receipts, and corporation taxes.
- Out-of-state suppliers can use New York State fulfillment/distribution companies
to sell and warehouse their products without being charged State corporate
franchise or sales taxes.
