Census 2000

Please Note: Access to Individual Census Records
Federal law STRICTLY prohibits access to census records to anyone except Census Bureau employees for 72 years following the census. Since the State Data Center is not a direct branch of the U.S. Census Bureau, we do not have any individual census records.

If you need to access your own census record from any census taken during the past 72 years, for proof of age or a similar reason, you need to contact the U.S. Census Bureau's age search staff at (812) 218-3046. (There is a nominal charge for this service.)

If you are looking for census records relating to other people, they are publicly available from the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration. The records from the 1930 Census are the most recent ones available, and they go back to 1790. Your local public library should be able to assist you in accessing these records. Please note that the indexing of these records tends to be rather poor and they are organized by address rather than name.

Please Note: Revised Population & Housing Unit Counts
The U.S. Census Bureau is issuing revisions to the total population, group quarters population, total housing units, and vacant housing units in areas within New York State as a result of the Count Question Resolution Program.

A list of revisions is available and will be updated as the Census Bureau releases new revisions for New York State.  Revisions for other states are available from the U. S. Census Bureau’s website

New York State municipalities with revisions as of 03 01 2007 can be found here.

Please Note: Census Bureau Determinations
The Census Bureau has announced that they will not revise the data included in American FactFinder or any report from the 2000 census.  Users of this system need to look at the documents listed above for revised data.

If you are looking for data for a specific area of the State and it is not included here, you should contact the affiliate data center serving that portion of the State to see if they have what you are looking for.
