Hundreds of New
York State manufacturers now sell their
products in Latin America, Europe, Canada,
Asia, and Africa because of their
participation in Empire State Development’s
(ESD) EMAS Program. This includes Made in
New York products such as scientific
instruments, ceramics adhesives, tool parts,
heat-processing systems, processed foods,
and many others in demand in foreign
markets.
The Export Marketing
Assistance Service (EMAS) is a New York
State program
to help businesses find sales agents or
distributors abroad.
EMAS provides you with a personalized,
customized search conducted by the
professional trade staff of New York State’s
foreign-based offices for the markets you
select. ESD Trade Specialist staff
familiarize themselves with your company’s
product line, trade experience and any other
factors relevant to identifying the best
possible parties to represent your company’s
sales interests abroad.
The program is
currently available
in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, most of
Europe, Japan, Israel and South Africa.
EMAS represents
an important tool for New York State
manufacturers of all sizes that aim to enter
or expand their sales in foreign
markets. By participating in EMAS, Empire
State Development will find the appropriate
importers/distributors and sales agents to
best represent your business
internationally.
Getting Started with EMAS
A company’s participation
begins by submitting an application
to
the program.
After
an initial screening and notification of
your acceptance into the program, we place
you in direct contact with ESD trade
specialists in our foreign offices.
Whenever feasible, ESD foreign office
representatives travel to New York to make
visits to deepen their knowledge
and
understanding of
the company’s products, marketing
techniques,
and distribution channels.
Our foreign office staff will
conduct research to identify suitable
importers, distributors and agents
and will interview and
screen
them to meet participants’ objectives. All
relevant information on the
importers, distributors and
agents
with an interest in representing the
business is then sent to the New York
company. Through
this method, EMAS participants
are
presented with high quality, qualified
referrals from which they can proceed to
formal representation agreements.

Precision Flow
Technologies,
a Mid-Hudson based producer of process gas
delivery and control systems used in the
production of semiconductors,
pharmaceuticals, and biotech and optical
products, is one highly satisfied client.
