The New York State office of
Homeland Security
(previously the Office of
Public Security) is
charged with coordinating
and enhancing anti-terrorist
efforts in the State of New
York, specifically with
developing a comprehensive
statewide strategy to
detect, protect against,
respond to, and prevent
acts
of terrorism.
New York
State Emergency
Management Office (SEMO)
The New York State Emergency
Management Office (SEMO)
coordinates emergency
management services with
federal and state
agencies to support county
and local governments to
protect lives, property and
the environment, and
provides administrative and
program support to the
Disaster Preparedness
Commission, the
Governor’s policy management
group for the state’s
emergency management
program.
NYS Office of Cyber Security
& Critical Infrastructure
Coordination
The NYS Office of Cyber
Security and Critical
Infrastructure Coordination
(CSCIC) was established to address New York
State's cyber security
readiness and critical
infrastructure coordination. CSCIC is responsible for
leading and coordinating New
York State's efforts
regarding cyber readiness,
geographic information
systems (GIS) and critical
infrastructure preparedness.
CSCIC works collaboratively
with the public and private
sectors to foster
communication and
coordination.
NYS Office of Science,
Technology & Academic
Research (NYSTAR)
Through a wide range of
programs and other strategic
initiatives, NYSTAR is
strengthening the formation
of university-business
partnerships to develop and
commercialize the most
economically promising
technologies of tomorrow.
Through the Security Through
Advanced Research and
Technology (START) program,
NYSTAR helps colleges and
universities secure federal
and other high-technology
research funding for the
burgeoning national homeland
security industry. The
program provides matching
grants to leverage resources
from federal or private
sources.
New York State Office of
General Services
The Office of General
Services (OGS), the basic
support service for other
state agencies, recently
created a procurement
workgroup consisting of
representatives from several
key agencies to assist OGS
in focusing on homeland
security commodities and
services that New York State
requires. The primary
mission of the workgroup is
to identify the needs of the
state and match them to
existing products and
services already under state
contracts.
New York State Department of
Health
The New York
State Department of Health
(DOH) protects and promotes the
health of New Yorkers
through prevention, science
and the assurance of quality
health care delivery.
Through its program,
Aware/Prepare, DOH provides
the facts on possible agents
that may be used in a
potential bio-terror attack,
including Anthrax, Smallpox
and chemical agents, among
others.
